Go Down in Cap and Gown History!
The first 60 years of Cap history have been recorded in a treasured volume covering the years from 1890-1950. The foreword states, “The Cap and Gown History covers a span of sixty years comprising more than one-quarter of the life of Princeton University, and takes us from the horse and buggy days of little Princeton College through the years of development and growth to the outstanding University of today.”
Sixty years later, it’s time to continue the history of Cap and Gown. We are embarking on an ambitious project to publish a reprinted edition of our first 60-year history and add a new volume for the years 1951–2015. The two volumes will take us from the 19th century to the era of the World Wide Web.
Cap members from 1951–2015 have been working on their stories and nearly all have been submitted. We’re in the final stages of editing!
The new edition will be done in a yearbook style with each section submitting both text and photos telling the tales of their time. We want the book to convey not just the memories of events at the club, but also a sense of the times, in the history of Princeton and of the world.
We’ll be sending you a draft of your section write-up, and we hope you’ll take this opportunity to add your memories. We want to be sure each section captures the historical context, the social and cultural issues, and what was happening at Princeton while you were at Cap!
We can’t wait to hear from you!
